Has anyone used a Baltic Amber teething necklace?
Here is where you can get more info on what they are.
http://www.amberartisans.com/
Supposedly Baltic Amber contains succinic acid which is in contemporary medical pain relievers. When it is against the skin it releases this harmless substance into the skin and helps with teething.
The necklace isn't long enough for baby to bite.
Just wondering if those who have used it or know of others that have, does it work?

dill pickles work great. the pickle juice softens up the gums. also carrots or freezing a wash cloth. if you can stand the mess juice pops sugarless ones are also good.

Definitely no carrots. They break apart and can cause a choking hazzard. Same with ice. Things like frozen waffles or bagels may not be so bad because they become soft fairly quickly. I'll have to research this some more and post back.

i never knew that about the carrots. i'm sorry to have passed on bad information. it worked for me and i never thought about choking as it never happened. duh.

there is this thing that I got when i bought my baby food grinder. sorry i haven't a clue of the name, but will do my best to explain it. it has a mesh bag with a plastic lid that has a handle like a pacifier. you can put fresh fruits and ice and other things in it. the baby can chew on it and the juices will come through, but no large pieces. i've used this with ice for savannah's teething.

thanks for telling about the icey baggy pacifier. wish i knew what it was called. i want one of those to send to my grand daughter. it sounds like just the thing for her. Her mom keeps buying those dumb teething biscuits which she drools all over the place. gross.

I had one of those too for my son. The mesh bag thing, but he lost it somewhere when we were out and about, so we didn't have it for long. But it was nice. Let me look on Walmart.com and see what it is and I'll post the name.

I googled "mesh infant feeder" and got what I was looking for.
It's called the Munchkin Fresh Food Feeder. I did not find it on Walmart.com, but I got it from the actual Walmart store and sometimes the store has different things than the site and vise versa.

For bad teething pains, just use kids Tylanol, it's as natural as a lot of things and it eliviates the pain. We've used it twice for our son when we were convinced he was in pain, there's no adverse effects, it's save and it helps them sleep. We also used the ora gel on our older son a few times, the doctor seems to have problems with it but I don't see why, if you let the kids eat peanut butter, gelly or wonderbread they're probably ingsting way more harmful chemicals than in any of these medicated creams, at least in the quantity they get them, not to mention that they'll eat dirt, hand cream and all sorts of other things growing up, it's pretty much impossible to prevent.
We found a frozen teething ring helped sometimes but not particularly well.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I gave her a little bit of Tylenol tonight. Nothing was helpingher feel better and it was way to hard seeing her crying and screaming. She's now peacefully sleeping

Good. I am not at all for medication in general, I take pain killers and such reluctantly and very seldom. But I see no need for letting your kid suffer when he or she is in pain, pain, in fact, can harm the body a lot more than the pain killer. And teething should be a fairly quick process, it hurts the most right before the tooth comes through and often it's only a matter of a day or so. I think parents know when the kid is genuinely hurtin and I think it's cruel to not give them proper pain killers when you know it has to be done, definitely try other solutions for less discomfort ande even with the pain killer, but don't be afraid to do what has to be done.

Highlands Teething Tablets are wonderful. You can get them at www.highlands.com I really hope this helps out. They are purely natural and safe and do the job well.

I've raised and helped raise many. My best method is washing my hands and just letting them chew on my thumb. Smile. No choking, no purcheasing, no meds, mess, except some slobbering, no side effects unless the small teeth poke, but this on me not them, and chewing is the best thing for them when it hurts. Allow them to put your finger, or thumb where they want it and your set.

Uh ... post eighteen, do you have kids? How do you know if that works? reading testomonials is fine and dandy, but unless you try it out on your child, you won't actually know.

Post 22 by turricane (happiness and change are choices ) on Monday, 14-Sep-2009 9:39:29

i love the thumb idea. that's what i used and should have mentioned it but didn't want to gross anyone out. people are so freaked by germs these days.

Post 23 by wildebrew (We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?) on Monday, 14-Sep-2009 11:57:56

The thumb idea is great, works very well on our one-year old. I think we've used tylanol twice so far and he's up to 6 teeth, so not too bad.
We tried the mesh things and it was ok, but messy and our younger one is not a big fan at all, much prefers either mlik or the real thing.
